Jim is lucky enough to have clocked up over 30 years of polar expeditioning; thousands of miles mostly on skis and dragging his world with him, which has given him a huge breadth and depth of experience in surviving and working in extreme environments. In 2001, he founded the "Ice Warrior Project" that gives "ordinary" people the chance to become polar explorers, achieving extraordinary feats of endurance for the betterment of humankind.
His aim is to develop people, discover change and deliver it to global audiences in a way that engages others; fostering a better understanding of the world we live in.
We all think that the world has been “discovered” and there are few areas that mankind has not reached. This is not so and project’s like Jim McNeill’s Ice Warrior Project serve to explore these extremes and push back the boundaries of our knowledge as well as the limits of those who take part. As an expeditioner myself I am delighted to encourage and support such worthwhile endeavour, undertaken not by experts but by trained amateurs under the careful leadership of Jim. I wish them the very best of luck.
Sir Chris Bonington MBE
During my first conversation with Jim, last century, I was impressed by his quiet confidence and solid enthusiasm. Since them I have come to learn the determination, dexterity, skills and knowledge of Jim and the crew behind the project and am delighted to be associated with them. Ice Warrior has all the potential of a truly great British First. Slightly mad and eccentric in conception, thorough and precise in planning and likely to prove ingenious and resolved in execution.
